This past Saturday the @paintedfeatherbirdclub met up at Bolsa Chica Wetlands for our 13th Field Trip!
✨✨✨
Luckily the weather held off just long enough for us to have an epic session together!
✨✨✨
Our morning was spent birding, laughing, connecting, breathing and learning about the local birds and their threatened environment.
✨✨✨
We observed an astonishing 55 species of birds with highlights including CALIFORNIA GNATCATCHER, REDDISH EGRET, and RIDGEWAYS’S RAIL!
✨✨✨
Big thanks to everyone who came out despite the cool temps and the longer commute!
✨✨✨

The last couple days I was feeling uninspired. Its hard to keep the creativity flowing if you don’t leave space for life to move through you.

So I did just that, I did just that. Emotions are just energy in motion so don’t be afraid to dance, journal, make music, or cry to let those emotions shower you in the medicine you need.

I decided to drop some frames that reflect the magic that exists between the spaces. Sometimes when I feel so goal oriented, I don’t honor life’s glory.

I’m in LA for now, but will be heading to Miami to be with my love in like 10 days, but whose counting! ;)

This time I observed this handsome duo in a cecropia tree in NW Ecuador’s cloud forest.
✨✨✨
Foraging on the cecropia fruits is a common past-time for frugivores in the tropics.
✨✨✨
These fast growing trees are often the first species to colonize an area after disturbance. Which is great since these trees are the first to begin landscape succession, as they provide habitat and food resources for a variety of birds and mammals.
✨✨✨

Crested Caracara study 📚

Over the last several days we have had the opportunity to see and photograph lots of Crested Caracara.
✨✨✨
Let me share some quick tidbits about this beautiful raptor ➡️

• member of the Falconidae family
• they feed by scavenging on carrion and don’t hunt for prey
• in the US can be found in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida!
•according to Sibley they are: “Uncommon and local in semi-open lowland habitats from mesquite brushlands to prairies and farmland”
• in flight reminiscent of a raven

Check out the transitional plumage of this handsome immature Rose-throated Becard photographed in South Texas today.
✨✨✨
You can see some of the buffy-cream body and neck color, which will soon become light gray. His namesake rose throat is coming in nicely and is only present in the males of this subspecies. He’ll also loose the brown color in his primaries which will molt and come back in a dark gray-blue.
