BIRDS BY BIJS

They're Not Gonna Watch Themselves!

About BIRDS by BIJS International Tours

BIRDS by BIJS International Bird Watching tours are geared for all levels of bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Our trips are intentionally crafted to provide high-quality experiences, at a digestible pace. We assemble the most expert local birding guides who will lead us to sought-after, premier birding locations.

The goal of our trips is of course to see as many birds as possible, but we do this without sacrificing the pleasures of travel. Our itineraries have been developed to ensure folks have appropriate amounts of down-time, and we move at a pace suited for all energy levels.

We strive to cultivate a holistic experience by integrating  thoughtful discussions about: the surrounding ecology, sustainable land use, cultural practices, and local food. As we move though our trip, we will have the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the plants, insects, mammals, reptiles and amphibians that we encounter during our time together.

With over 10 years as a professional outdoor guide, Benny Jacobs-Schwartz is a master of client care and is committed to providing an excellent experience that is thoroughly engaging for all participants!

We're excited to share our 2024 offerings with you.

TRIP LEADER

All trips are led by Benny Jacobs-Schwartz.  Benny has spent the last thirteen years traveling the world mastering his Spanish, guiding, and group facilitation skills. Before launching tours, Jacobs-Schwartz spends time in-country, methodically researching and exploring areas of interest and establishing relationships with guides, drivers, and our accommodations.
All trips are complimented by highly trained bird and naturalist guides, who specialize in birds and photography. Our local guides are experts in their field, and have an incredible knowledge of their region including birds and a wide variety of other subjects pertaining to conservation and the natural world.
Our guides are of course extremely knowledgeable, but are not here to show off our skills. Instead, they are here to answer questions, spark curiosity, and share their love of birds and wildlife with our amazing clients.
We employ local guides to provide expert instruction and the most up-to date regional information. In addition, our trips are capped at ten participants. This is done to ensure an intimate and manageable wildlife viewing experience for everybody.

OUR IN-COUNTRY LOCAL GUIDES

Living the dream? You betcha! Our guides love what they do and it shows. When someone loves what they do, it’s obvious. That’s why we choose the best of the best to work with.

Our guides take joy in sharing their favorite birds, hotspots and local secrets with you. They are here to provide the best experience possible and make sure you’re getting the most out your trip. We can’t wait to share our passion and love of birds, wildlife and photography with you. Our professional guides are actively involved in local biology, conservation, photography and expanding their knowledge of the natural world.

HOW BIG ARE YOUR GROUPS?

Glad you asked! All of our trips are capped at ten participants. We maintain small group sizes to ensure high-quality wildlife viewing experiences for everyone.

Many of the forested sites we visit contain shy or reclusive species, thus with smaller groups, our chances of getting good views is significantly improved.

WILL THERE BE TIME FOR PHOTOGRAPHY?

The primary focus of our trips is not photography, but we will have plenty of time to photograph birds.

Our itineraries are specifically crafted to maximize the total number of species observed while also visiting lodges and making stops where gorgeous birds visit epic feeders setups, a bird photographer’s dream!

Many locations have mixed setups with fruit feeders, hummingbird feeders, and Antpitta feeding stations which are some of the best ways to observe and photograph birds in the tropics

Your trip leader will communicate this on a daily basis so you know how to gear up for each stop!

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHERE YOU GO?

All of our itineraries are carefully crafted to include the best bird and wildlife viewing opportunities. Of course, we visit some of the more popular ecotourism hotspots, but we also incorporate smaller, less traveled destinations based on seasonal bird movements and updated information based on the most recent reports.

We at BIRDS by BIJS are often updating our itineraries to provide access to the most up-to-date hotspots, including newly developed destinations that are locally owned and operated. We also welcome participant feedback in order to ensure we are meeting your needs and constantly improving the experience for our clients.

Rooming: Single vs Double Occupancy

Tour price based on double occupancy at lodgings with a minimum group size of 4 participants and max of 8.

Note if you would like a roommate, we will try to find you one, however, we cannot guarantee this, and if none is available, you will be charged the single supplement fee.

Dietary – In general we can accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies such as; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegetarian/Vegan/Pescatarian, etc.

*If you have a severe allergy or restriction, please reach out to make sure we can accommodate you!

PRICING

Our goal is to provide reasonably priced trips without compromising quality or wildlife viewing opportunities. When it comes to quality, we don’t skip a beat. However we generally prefer to avoid 5-star accommodations especially when we have more reasonably priced options that provide clean, comfortable, and friendly service all the while supporting the local economy.

We of course appreciate good food and great meals, be assured that you will have the opportunity to enjoy local cuisine, prepared by trained local chefs.

Based on our daily schedule, we may travel with packed breakfasts or lunches to ensure we get the most time with the birds and wildlife, because, that is what we came for…right?
