This tour represents one of the most comprehensive birding programs in South America, covering an incredible range of habitats from coastal desert to humid cloudforest and high Andean ecosystems. With a strong focus on endemic species, this itinerary delivers both diversity and rarity in equal measure.
Arrival into Lima. Most international flights arrive in the evening. Overnight near the airport (not included).
Morning coastal excursion to Pucusana and Isla Pucusana. Target seabirds include Humboldt Penguin, Inca Tern, Peruvian Booby, and Red-legged Cormorant. Afternoon flight to Tarapoto.

Birding the transition zone between Amazonian lowlands and Andean foothills. Targets include Pink-throated Brilliant, Paradise Tanager, Gilded Barbet, and Painted Manakin.
Overnight: Plataforma
Full day exploring foothill forest, mixed flocks, and interior trails. Key species include Curl-crested Aracari, Versicolored Barbet, Wire-crested Thorntail, and multiple antbirds and tanagers.

Morning birding before descending back to Tarapoto with strategic stops along the way.

Birding through Cordillera Escalera foothills. Excellent chances for toucanets, euphonias, and canopy flocks.

Two full days exploring diverse habitats including forest, edge, and river systems. Highlights include Oilbird colony, hummingbirds, manakins, and mixed-species flocks.

Early stop at Arena Blanca reserve for shy understory species. Continue into cloudforest. Night birding possible for Long-whiskered Owlet.

Full day in one of Peru’s premier cloudforest birding sites. Targets include Long-whiskered Owlet, multiple antpittas, Royal Sunangel, and Red-hooded Tanager.

Descending through elevation gradients with stops for regional specialties and Marañón-influenced species.
Overnight: Pomacochas
Visit Huembo Reserve for the spectacular Marvelous Spatuletail. Birding around Gocta Waterfall area.
Overnight: Cocachimba
Transition into dry inter-Andean valleys influenced by the Marañón system. Targets include Marañón Spinetail and related endemics.
Overnight: Jaén
Dramatic elevation gain through canyon systems. Focus on localized endemics and valley specialists.
Overnight: Leymebamba
High Andean birding along the Marañón rim. Targets include Yellow-scarfed Tanager and multiple hummingbirds.
Overnight: Celendín
Birding highland valleys and puna ecosystems. Several regional endemics possible.
Overnight: Cajamarca
Tour 1 ends. Flight to Lima and onward travel.
Extension into dry forests and coastal systems, including Chaparrí, Chiclayo, and Bosque de Pómac.
Highlights include:
White-winged Guan, Elegant Crescentchest, Tumbes Tyrant, Peruvian Plantcutter, and many dry-forest endemics.
Final return to Lima.
